Billboard Update: Decade-End Billboard 200 Albums (2000-2009)

With the year of 2009 coming to a close, we also see the 2000s coming to a close. So it was time for everyone to list the best things of this decade. For EdgeMusic, we only began in 2007, so we're going to take a look at what made other decade-end lists. No one had their lists more eventful than Billboard. For the next two weeks, we will present to you the outcome of most of the decade-end charts. We start off with the Billboard 200 charts. The #1 album this decade was *NSYNC's "No Strings Attached" (2000). They never were an EdgeMusic Artist of the Week, but we wanted to point out how much the music industry has suffered ever since they got that boy band out of their sights. Anyways, here's how our alumni did:

#29. KELLY CLARKSON "BREAKAWAY" (2004) - HIGHEST POSITION
#34. BACKSTREET BOYS "BLACK & BLUE" (2000)
#38. PINK "M!SUNDERSTOOD" (2001)
#45. BACKSTREET BOYS "MILLENNIUM" (1999)

Also, the list includes two soundtrack entries which include EdgeMusic alum, Ashley Tisdale (June 21 - 28, 2009):

#44. HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL SOUNDTRACK (2006)
#102. HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL 2 SOUNDTRACK (2007)

Yet Another Interesting Showing Of Affection For Ashley Tisdale

We really love how Ashley Tisdale's fanbase operates at their headquarters. The EdgeMusic alum (June 21 - 28, 2009) has taken the #1 spot on the FM Box countdown, which is a radio countdown in Chile. And you said foreigners were boring. Anyone across the country can vote, and you can vote until the next countdown on Tuesday. Here's another interesting fact: another EdgeMusic alum, The Backstreet Boys (May 4 - 11, 2008), have occupied the #2 and the #3 spot with both their singles from "This Is Us". Note that "Bigger" is at #2. It's great for us that both artists can do mediocre in the US, and they can do a lot better overseas. I can only hope to go on an airplane trip soon to see how they operate.

Billboard 200 Update (October 14, 2009)

The Backstreet Boys (May 4 - 11, 2008) debuted at #9 this week with their seventh album "This Is Us". The album moved 42,000 copies, which is almost half of the sales for 2007's "Unbreakable" in its first week, which debuted at #7. Their peak had already ended, but this was no fault to the boys. They could have gotten a lot more promotion in this week to boost the sales if Brian Littrell hadn't caught the swine flu. We were sure that promotion would take a good hit after that.

Shelby Cobra Also Has Swine Flu

We already reported on how Brian Littrell became the first EdgeMusic alum to catch the dreaded swine flu one day before the Backstreet Boys released their new album "This Is Us". Now we found out more to this horrible situation: there's another EdgeMusic alum who has the infamous pig virus. Shelby Cobra of KSM has confirmed that she had the swine flu.

Brian Littrell Diagnosed With Swine Flu

Tomorrow, the Backstreet Boys release their new album "This Is Us", and they are using every opportunity they have to get people to buy the album. So it was appropriate that the worst case scenario was the dreaded swine flu. Today, it was confirmed that Brian Littrell has been diagnosed with the one disease that no musician or EdgeMusic alum wants to have. While it's the biggest epidemic to spread throughout the Earth this entire year, it's not fatal. You just have to take the regular medication. What we learned that swine flu is the same as regular flu. The only difference is that it lasts up to a week rather than a 4 to 5 day basis. This pretty screws up the band's promotional plans this week, which is what they needed to guarantee a great first week debut. The cancelled appearances include a performance on CBS's The Early Show tomorrow morning, an intimate performance at PC Richards in New York City, and a signing for Hard Rock Live's PINKTOBER event in New York City. Now the boys can only hope to figure out how to sort out the rest of their promo schedule and hope that it catches on to music consumers through the songs. The last thing they need in their career is the swine flu.

Backstreet Boys "Straight Through My Heart" Single On iTunes

The Backstreet Boys (May 4 - 11, 2008) have released a new song titled "Straight Through My Heart". It is the first single off their upcoming seventh album, "This Is Us", which hits stores October 6th. The song is produced by RedOne, who produced Lady GaGa's music, as well as the New Kids on the Block (July 20 - 27, 2008) comeback album "The Block". They have been back so many times now since 2005. This is their third comeback, but this time, it's for the radio stations. This song is a dance-pop track that reflects their previous dance hits. The only question is if it will become a hit. You can buy "Straight Through My Heart" on iTunes right now.
