This Week's Poll Was Redone Because We Got A Nominee's Name Wrong

Well, you've been reading our Twitter updates about how we have been apologizing for an error we made. It was difficult to explain ourselves completely in one update, especially since you cannot go over 140 characters, so here's the full explanation.

We made a poll for this week's contest, and we had 5 nominees. So after it was created, we started sending out notifications to everyone. When we tried to notify one of the nominees, we realized that the band we were looking for was called Light This City. For some reason, we entered in Sound The City, which was the name of another band that did not live in the state that we were focusing on this week. The first link that we sent out was http://www.wishafriend.com/poll/101796/ for the first version of the poll. When we realized the problem, we had to go back and remake the poll with the right names of our nominees. The new and correct poll link is http://www.wishafriend.com/poll/101797/. The first one had already pulled in 4 votes because we notified the first two nominees, which were spelled correctly. However, we didn't reset the vote count despite having to do a new poll. When we take a look at the results from the revised poll, we will transfer in the votes from the first poll. Whenever we make an error in a poll, we always redo it and resend our notices back out to everyone, so we try not to make a big deal out of it. This was just an error that would have mislead a fan to the wrong nominee.

By the way, here's the full poll up below here.

O! Canada IV

We're not Canadian, but we need you all to sing the national anthem to Canada right now. Even if you're not from Canada:

O Canada!
Our home and native land!
True patriot love in all thy sons command.
With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
The True North strong and free!
From far and wide, O Canada,
We stand on guard for thee.
God keep our land glorious and free!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

I know it was uncalled for, but this is a special week for EdgeMusic, as this week's theme is dedicated to our favorite country of all time, Canada. This country has given us more EdgeMusic winners than any other foreign country.

Teenage Wasteland

We published this poll last week, but we didn't spend a lot of time on it. In fact, we barely did a lot on EdgeMusic last week. Not a lot of updates or anything like that. So we decided to go on a week-long hiatus, and then we would turn our full attention. The poll was pushed back, and now this contest has officially began. Here's the lowdown on this week's EdgeMusic Artist of the Week contest.

Teen pop has existed for four decades now, and it has went through many changes of form. The 70s brought us teen idols through musical sitcoms. The 80s have seen its teen idols come from shopping malls. Teen pop's most successful form came in the 90s with the heyday of MTV's "TRL". In this decade, when everyone thought teen pop was done, teenage superstar machine was handed down from MTV to Disney Channel. Throughout all decades, the teen idols were recognized through magazines like Teen Beat, Tiger Beat, J-14, Bop!, and Popstar! Magazine.

EdgeMusic has done contests on the teen pop genre before in diferent forms. The first one was "Boyz II Men", which nominated boy bands still active long after their peak. The Backstreet Boys were the Artist of the Week from May 4th to the 11th of 2008. Two of their competitors, New Kids on the Block and Hanson, later become Artist of the Week through different nominations. Then, we covered on Disney Channel's music superstars in the "Wonderful World of Disney" contest in August of 2008. The Jonas Brothers were featured on EdgeMusic from August 31st to September 7th of 2008. Then earlier this year, we did the "Popstar! Magazine" contest with nominees featured on Popstar! Magazine. The winner of that contest was Varsity Fanclub. Other teen idols that have won the chance to be featured on EdgeMusic are Jimmy Robbins, David Archuleta, and Demi Lovato.

This week, we are nominating five young artists that are popular in the teen pop genre. The winner will be featured on EdgeMusic from June 21st to the 28th of 2009. The nominees are:

*Mitchel Musso

*Kristinia DeBarge

*Ashley Tisdale

* School Boy Humor

*KSM

Voting is now open, and it will end Saturday June 20th at 11 PM EST. To vote, go to our official MySpace profile, or you can vote right here:

Our New Semi-Finalist

Well, the poll has been closed Sunday night. The votes have been tallied, but the announcement was pretty much overdue. So, let's go ahead and reveal what happened in our April preliminaries for our EdgeMusic Artist of the Year Faceoff.

This was the second time that a preliminary round has been run for April 2009. Hinder won the first one, but they were disqualified after we forgot that their reign began on March 29th. Therefore, that contest was redone. This time, we had a better outcome. 10 votes were cast in this round, which was better than the first time we did it. Winning by only half of the vote...

JUNIOR DOCTOR IS NOW A SEMI-FINALIST IN OUR EDGEMUSIC ARTIST OF THE YEAR FACEOFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congratulations to Junior Doctor for advancing to the next round, and thanks to everyone who voted. Junior Doctor completes the lineup of our first semi-final round. In that round, the band will go up against Locksley, Seymoure, and Kelly Clarkson. The semi-finals will be held at the end of the year. The next preliminary round will take place this Sunday, and we will find a representative for our May 2009 winners.

Final Results:

JUNIOR DOCTOR - 50%

The Airborne Toxic Event - 30%

The Chuck Shafer Picture Show - 20%

Nashville Rocks III (Week 73)

Okay, we selected our new nominees, created a new poll, and opened up the vote. Here's the lowdown on this week's EdgeMusic Artist of the Week contest.

Back in April of 2008, we ran a poll titled "Nashville Rocks!". This was a theme we created with a focus on artists or bands in the rock genre that come from the state of Tennessee (where you would normally think that's where the country artists come from). The four nominees that week were Dave Barnes, Landon Pigg, Matt Wertz, and Gavin Mikhail. Matt Wertz won that contest with 66% of the vote, and he was featured on EdgeMusic from April 6th to April 13th of 2008.

The sequel was held in August of 2008 titled "Nashville Rocks II". Josh Hoge beat out his fellow nominees including Dave Barnes and Andy Davis with half of the vote, and he was featured on EdgeMusic from August 17th to August 24th of 2008.

This week, we will be doing our third poll dedicated to rock artists from Tennessee. The winner will be featured on EdgeMusic from June 7th to June 14th. The nominees are:

*Framing Hanley (Nashville, Tennessee)

*Kings of Leon (Nashville, Tennessee)

*Wake The Light (Cookeville, Tennessee)

*One Less Reason (Memphis, Tennessee)

*Shirock (Nashville, Tennessee)

These are your nominees. Now to vote for one of the 5 artists mentioned here as next week's winner, vote from either our MySpace profile, or you could vote right here on the poll below:

EdgeMusic Artist Of The Year Preliminary Round #4

So right now, we are running a special contest called the EdgeMusic Artist of the Year Faceoff. This contest decides who was the best EdgeMusic winner of the entire year. Our first annual Faceoff took place in 2008. We had 12 preliminary rounds, 3 semi-final rounds, and one final round. Above All Else was declared the champion this past January.

The official contest for 2009 began back in April. We ran four preliminary rounds in the middle of April, choosing four semi-finalists. We usually begin our preliminaries right at the end of each month while the winners were still fresh off of their reign. The January preliminaries were the first to be held, followed by the February preliminaries, then the March preliminaries, and then the April preliminaries being the latest.

However, the winner of the April preliminaries was Hinder, whose reign actually began on March 29th and ended on April 5th. We usually sort the preliminaries by the beginning of each winner's reign, so Hinder was disqualified. But Kelly Clarkson (March 8 - 15, 2009) was allowed to remain a semi-finalist when Hinder's votes were compared to the results of the March preliminaries. Kelly will participate in the semi-finals at the end of the year along with Locksley (January 4 - 11, 2009) and Seymoure (February 8 - 15, 2009). But the April preliminaries only received 2 votes, with Hinder winning unanimously. The 3 winners from April lost to a winner whose reign began in March.

So today, the April preliminaries will be redone. This round will last the whole day, and it will include all the winners from April except the winners from the Bamboozle contest, as that week had 7 winners, but they will have a big surprise ahead of them. For now, here are our candidates:

*The Airborne Toxic Event (April 5 - 12, 2009)

*The Chuck Shafer Picture Show (April 12 - 17, 2009)

*Junior Doctor (April 17 - 26, 2009)

The poll closes at 11 PM EST tonight. To vote, go to our MySpace profile, or you can vote on here:
